The Arizona Diamondbacks have hired AJ Hinch as manager, making him the youngest manager in Major League Baseball since Eric Wedge was hired by Cleveland in 2002.

The 34-year-old Hinch, who has no previous experience in the job, replaces Bob Melvin who was fired on Thursday.

Hinch spent the past four seasons working as Arizona's director of player development.

This was Melvin's second tour of duty with Arizona. He picked up a World Series ring as bench coach when the Diamondbacks won the championship eight years ago.
