Southpaw pitcher Arthur Rhodes, a 17-year Major League Baseball veteran, was sent by the Seattle Mariners to the Florida Marlins on Thursday ahead of the Major League Baseball trading deadline.
Just hours before the transfer deadline, 38-year-old Rhodes was traded for 21-year-old minor league right-handed pitcher Gaby Hernandez.
Rhodes is 2-1 with a 2.86 earned-run average in 36 appearances for Seattle this season and has limited left-handed batters to a .195 average.
Rhodes has a 4.28 earned-run average in 689 career games with five different clubs.
He will join a Marlins bullpen that includes left-hander Renyel Pinto, who has a 2.88 earned-run average in 58 games this season.
Rhodes adds depth for the Marlins, who are 57-51 and 1 1/2 games behind Philadelphia in a tight fight to the lead of the National League East division.
