CLEVELAND (Reuters) - The New York Mets eased past the Cleveland Indians 6-4 on Thursday to boost their inter-league record to a Major League Baseball best 8-1.
Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey improved his record to 5-0, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits and struck out seven in six innings.
After going down 3-0 in the first inning on runs by Jose Reyes, Angel Pagan and Ike Davis, the Indians drew to within one after Travis Hafner singled and scored in the second and Shin-Soo Choo scored on an error by Ruben Tejada in the third.
The Mets countered with two more runs in the fourth when Jesus Feliciano opened the inning with a walk and later scored on an RBI by David Wright while Reyes scored on a Davis single.
The Indians again narrowed the lead to one as Hafner drove in Choo in the fifth and Carlos Santana in the seventh.
Reyes' triple in the eighth off relief pitcher Chris Perez scored Tejada to complete the scoring.
Indians starter Jake Westbrook, attempting to win for the fifth time in his last six starts fell to 4-4, gave up five runs on 11 hits in seven innings while striking out five.
Francisco Rodriguez struck out three in the ninth inning to collect his 15th save of the year.
