Orioles first baseman Ty Wigginton has received a three-game suspension and a fine for bumping an umpire during an argument in Thursday night's game against the Minnesota Twins.
Wigginton says he will appeal the ruling.
The punishment stems from a confrontation between Wigginton and umpire Gary Darling, who contended that Wigginton bumped him in the chest-stomach area. Wigginton was arguing a seventh-inning call that Darling made incorrectly, according to replays.
Wigginton said Thursday night that he didn't bump Darling, and reiterated that claim on Friday when he spoke about the suspension and punishment.
Wigginton could recall being ejected from a game only once, and says he never has been suspended before.
He would not reveal the amount of the fine, but said, "It was more than I was expecting."
Orioles manager Juan Samuel and pitching coach Rick Kranitz were also ejected.
