Red Sox batting suspended after ejection

Major League Baseball imposed a one-game suspension upon Boston Red Sox batting coach Dave Magadan on Friday after his ejection against Washington two days earlier.

Magadan was forced out of Friday's Red Sox game at Atlanta and fined an undisclosed amount for what Major League Baseball vice president Bob Watson called "inappropriate actions".

Home plate umpire Bob Davidson ejected Magadan in the fourth inning of Boston's 6-4 victory at Washington on Wednesday after Magadan argued with Davidson's call of a strike on a pitch to Red Sox slugger Kevin Youkilis.

Magadan has been ejected five times in his major league career, twice as a coach.

The Red Sox, 44-28, have the best record in the American League and the second-best record in Major League Baseball to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
