Red Sox reach deal with pitching ace Papelbon

The Boston Red Sox avoided arbitration with Jonathan Papelbon by signing their all-star pitcher to a one-year, 9.35 million dollar contract.

Papelbon is the Red Sox all-time leader in saves with 151 in just four seasons as the club's closing pitcher. He made 6.25 million dollars last season.

The right-hander recorded 38 saves in 66 appearances last season and has a career 1.84 ERA with 346 strikeouts.
