The Cincinnati Reds acquired pitcher Mat Latos from the San Diego Padres for four players, including infielder Yonder Alonso and starting pitcher Edinson Volquez.
Latos, a 23-year-old starting pitcher, finished with nine wins and 14 losses for San Diego last season. He had an impressive 3.47 ERA and was among the league leaders in strikeouts.
The Padres also received catcher Yasmani Grandal and pitcher Brad Boxberger.
Alonso is a former first-round draft pick and Volquez is coming off a 5-7 season.
