White Sox promote 2008 top pick Beckham, designated Wilson Betemit for assignment
Infielder Gordon Beckham, the Chicago White Sox's first-round draft pick in 2008, will be called up from Triple-A on Thursday, and Wilson Betemit will be designated for assignment.
Beckham was selected No. 8 overall last year after starring at the University of Georgia. He has batted .326 with, 23 doubles, four homers and 25 RBIs in 45 games at Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte this season.
He has played shortstop, third and second. Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen said he will could use Beckham in all three positions.
