Yankees hope three is a lucky number against Angels

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi tinkered with his playoff lineup Thursday adding more speed in Freddy Guzman and unveiling his starting pitchers for the first three games.

Girardi is pondering going with a three-man rotation for the American League Championship Series and will start CC Sabathia for Friday's game one against Angels' ace John Lackey.

Girardi picked A.J. Burnett for game two and plans to go with Andy Pettitte for game three. He didn't name his game four starter as he is leaning towards going back to Sabathia. Chad Gaudin or Joba Chamberlain could also start if needed.

Speedster Guzman was inserted into the roster in place of Eric Hinske.

Guzman appeared in 10 games for New York this season after being acquired from Baltimore in August.

He was not on the Yankees' division series roster, but Girardi thinks he adds another dimension to the lineup.

"We thought we could use another speed guy in this round," Girardi said Thursday. "In seven-game series it could come up late in games. Sometimes you can use a couple of pinch-runners."
