Yankees' protest over pitching change denied

Major League Baseball Thursday denied the protest filed by the New York Yankees this week after a defeat by the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees claimed there was no sign of an injury when Boston starting pitcher Josh Beckett was pulled in the fifth inning of Tuesday's contest.

But reliever Manny Delcarmen was given all the time he needed to warm up, rather than the standard eight warm-up pitches.

New York wound up losing, and Boston put Beckett on the disabled list the next day.

MLB president Bob DuPuy rejected the protest.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he didn't expect to win the argument.
