New York Yankees infielder Alex Rodriguez will not need to undergo additional operations for his surgically repaired hip, according to the Major League Baseball team.
Rodriguez, a career .305 hitter, missed the first two months of last season after having surgery in March.
He was expected to undergo a second operation but doctors said the hip is healing fine and he can begin training for the 2010 season.
Rodriguez finished with at least 30 home runs and 100 RBIs for the 12th consecutive season. New York had a league-best 90-44 record and won their 27th World Series.
Rodriguez has 583 homers and 1,706 RBIs over 16 seasons with Seattle, Texas and the Yankees.
